About Seatac, Washington
SeaTac was incorporated in 1990, though the areas it now encompasses – including Angle Lake, McMicken, Bow Lake, and Riverton – had existed long before anyone had ever heard the name “SeaTac”. The name is a combination of “Seattle” and “Tacoma” and was assigned to the city due to its proximity to the two aforementioned cities. With a population of roughly 27,000 people, this small-to-mid-sized city has a fairly active economy. The most recent estimates state that around 900 businesses call SeaTac home, including more than 80 “Fortune 1000” companies.
More than 40,000 people are employed by the businesses located in SeaTac – an impressive statistic considering the city’s small relatively small size. It’s not surprising that businesses in the city are doing well, though. Thanks to the efforts of the SeaTac Chamber of Commerce, local businesses can take advantage of a one-stop permitting center, low-interest business loans, and a number of advisement services offered by the cities four department divisions.
Technically a suburb of Seattle, SeaTac both depends upon and supports the Seattle Metropolitan Economy. Even standing alone, however, SeaTac would likely fair better than most similar-sized cities throughout the country. The city is governed by a council of 7 elected councilpersons, which means all decisions are decided by a group of responsible citizens – not by an all-powerful mayor. There is a mayor of SeaTac, Currently Ralph Shape, but he does not have final decision-making authority on most matters. The city of SeaTac operates its own fire department and police headquarters and employs 51 full-time police officers, detectives, and administrative staff.
SeaTac isn’t home to any attractions worthy of mention but it is fairly close to a number of recreational parks, museums, and concert halls. Ultimately, SeaTac is the type of city that could offer you a well-paid full-time job and enough income to enjoy your time off. If you want to play sports or take a walk through nature, there are a number of parks within the city that you can enjoy.
